Joyce A. G. Mitchell is a skilled negotiator and conducts multi-party facilitation sessions, early neutral evaluations, organizational and management conflict inquiries, and fact findings.

Beginning her practice in 1996, she has mediated in more than 3000 cases, including for the U. S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), and for private entities. On the roster of mediators for several private dispute resolution providers, she mediates nationwide and internationally for their private and federal government clients. Additionally, she is a commercial arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association (AAA).

She is the immediate past president and distinguished fellow of the International Academy of Mediators (IAM), a 2022-2023 member of the ADR Section Board of the Maryland State Bar Association, a certified mediator in Virginia and North Carolina, and an attorney licensed in Maryland and the District of Columbia. She is listed in the American Bar Association’s Women in Dispute Resolution (WIDR) directory, 2023 and 2024.

Previously, she taught ADR techniques: mediation, interviewing, counseling, and negotiation at the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University for six years and was a co-trainer of the Maryland State Bar Association 40-hour basic mediation training for five years.

She is a member of the Maryland Program for Mediator Excellence and a former member of the Maryland Council for Dispute Resolution. She has lectured for numerous organizations including the Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution (Greenbelt, Maryland), the Maryland Program for Mediator Excellence, the Maryland State Bar Association’s ADR Section, the Maryland Judicial Training Center, and the National Bar Association.
