Jason Hess is the director of student affairs at Maryland Carey Law. He is responsible for overseeing the Peer Advisor Program, ensuring that reasonable accommodations are provided to qualified law students as mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), counseling students in distress, managing the day-to-day operations of the Maryland Carey Law House Cup, and developing initiatives to enhance student care, well-being, resilience, and a sense of belonging at Maryland Carey Law. He also supervises the Assistant Director of Student Affairs.

Prior to joining Maryland Carey Law, he was the assistant director of intramural sports at the University of Maryland, College Park where he oversaw the implementation of a large and comprehensive program, managed a recreation and event space, and supervised a professional staff member.  He also supervised a staff of over 50 student employees and developed leadership and professionalism in those students through their employment.  Jason has been a practitioner of student affairs for over 12 years at both the University of Maryland, College Park and Towson University.

In addition to his professional career, Jason is an active basketball official and served in the past as the rules interpreter and trainer for new basketball officials for the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials, Board 23.

He holds a bachelor's degree in environmental science from the University of Maryland, College Park and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Delaware.  He will complete law school and earn his juris doctor degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in Spring 2025.
