George Townsend

Bio
George Townsend is a staff attorney at the Legal Resource Center for Public Health Policy – Cannabis at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, where he supports the Maryland public health community with legal research, education, and advocacy related to cannabis policy. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the William & Mary Law School in 2021 and his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Chicago in 2016. Prior to joining the LRC in May 2024, George was a Workforce Development Attorney at the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service. In that role he represented workforce trainees in criminal record expungement cases and provided legal advice on other civil legal matters. From 2021 to 2022 George worked as a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia, where he represented low-income individuals in housing, family law, and government benefits cases.
