Bio

LaQuan Bates '25 is pursuing a career in intellectual property and data privacy. He leverages his strong foundation in technology, with a B.S. in Information Systems and a Computer Science minor from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, to excel in these dynamic legal fields.

LaQuan demonstrates exceptional leadership as President of the Maryland Cyber Law & Data Privacy Association (CLDPA) and Treasurer of the Maryland Intellectual Property Association (MIPSA). Recognized for his academic achievements, he is an International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Scholar and a Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett, & Dunner IP Scholar. LaQuan has also been featured in the D.C. Bar's Washington Lawyer Magazine for his commitment to diversity within the intellectual property space.

LaQuan's commitment to dispute resolution is evident through his membership on the National Alternative Dispute Resolution Team, where he secured a first-place win at the 2023 Cardozo Entertainment Law Negotiation Invitational.

LaQuan gained valuable legal experience during his 1L summer internship at Dropbox in San Francisco, CA, and currently serves as a Legal Policy Intern at the Future of Privacy Forum (DC).

For his upcoming summer, LaQuan will be a Google Legal Scholar at Google's Mountain View office, further solidifying his interest in IP and data privacy. Additionally, he will be a summer associate at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner's DC Office, focusing on trademarks, copyright, advertising, and data privacy.

When not immersed in legal studies, LaQuan enjoys martial arts, cultural cooking classes, and exploring the world as an avid traveler.
