The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Foundation, Inc. named Tamika L. Tremaglio ’95 a Catalyst for Excellence awardee at a ceremony on April 28. Recipients of the honor are recognized for exemplifying powerful advocacy for success, achievement, and philanthropy while serving as visionaries for future projects.

As a law student, Tremaglio achieved what was virtually unheard of at the time—earning both a full‑time juris doctor and MBA, concurrently—and foreshadowing her trailblazing career at the intersection of law and business. For the past three years, she has been chair of the law school’s Board of Visitors, leading the board throughout the school’s historic bicentennial celebration and helping to usher in a wave of renewed alumni and community engagement.

Last year, as she celebrated her 30th law school reunion, Tremaglio joined with some classmates and other board members to establish the Class of 1995 Scholarship to ease the financial burden of a legal education for future students.

A Board of Visitors member since 2013, Tremaglio has been a champion of law students’ wellness, mentorship, and excellence.

“Beyond her leadership and generosity, Tamika’s warmth echoes in every corner of our community, from mentoring students, to speaking at countless programs,” said Maryland Carey Law Dean Renée Laurent when she introduced Tremaglio at the awards ceremony. “Tamika’s kindness follows everywhere she goes. She is the model of exceptional servant leadership and a true catalyst for excellence.”

Outside of the law school, Tremaglio has built a pioneering career at the intersection of law, business, and sports. She was managing principal for Deloitte’s Greater Washington area, overseeing 15,000 professionals across 17 offices, and served as the National Basketball Players Association’s executive director for two years. Today, as managing director of Secretariat, she brings a unique combination of sports industry leadership and business transformation expertise into leading the company’s global sports consulting practice.

UMB President Bruce Jarrell emceed the event, which was held at the M&T Bank Exchange in downtown Baltimore. The UMB Foundation, Inc. honored a Catalyst for Excellence from each of the university’s seven schools, with the school deans introducing the honoree from their institutions. Additionally, a team of three from the pharmaceutical and biotechnology company AstraZeneca received the Distinguished Service Award for their advocacy, leadership, and sustained commitment to advancing educational experiences, research, practice, and community engagement through continuing partnerships with UMB.

Attendees included honorees’ family members and colleagues, as well as Jay Perman, chancellor of the University System of Maryland and former UMB president.

Bringing together representatives from all corners of the university, including the University of Maryland Medical Center, to celebrate service, philanthropy, and volunteerism engendered a strong sense of community among the guests.

As Jarrell reminded the assemblage, “We are all UMB.”
