University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law Dean Renée Hutchins Laurent has been named a 2025 Influential Marylander by The Daily Record.

Laurent began her deanship in 2022 after serving as dean at the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law since 2019. For the 14 years prior to that, she was a member of the faculty at Maryland Carey Law where she taught the Appellate and Post-Conviction Advocacy Clinic, Criminal Procedure, Fourth Circuit Decisions, and a criminal appeals seminar.

Laurent is joined in the honor by four Maryland Carey Law alumni: Gregg L. Bernstein ’81, Jennifer Curry ’06, Tisha Edwards ’00, and Chuck Morton ’90.

The Influential Marylanders recognition was created in 2006 to honor people who have made significant impacts in their field and continue to be leaders in Maryland.

Honorees will be celebrated at an awards ceremony on September 18 in Cockeysville, Md.
