The unstoppable team of (left to right) Eunice Kabuga ’22, Meredith Johnston ’23, Tonecia Brothers-Sutton ’22, and Lindsay Hemminger ’23 took first place at the American Association for Justice (AAJ) Northeast 2 Regional Competition the weekend of March 11-13.
Maryland Carey Law’s National Trial Team competitors won all three preliminary rounds against Quinnipiac, New Hampshire, and Drexel, and headed into the elimination rounds as the #1 seed to edge out UConn in the semifinals and Quinnipiac again in the final round.
The team was coached by Trial Team alumni Alex Carlson ’13, Warnach & Brown; Courtney Watkins ’18, Eccleston and Wolf; and Eshawn Rawlley ’14, United States Air Force.
“Being able to compete and win Regionals at the American Association for Justice competition with my teammates was an unforgettable experience,” said Kabuga, Trial Team co-captain. “All the hard work and support from our coaches paid off in a great way ... I am excited to continue working on my skills and gaining experience at Nationals.”
Nationals take place April 8-10. Other law schools sending teams to Nationals include American, Georgetown, NYU, Pace, Temple, Alabama, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, Washington University, Penn State, Duquesne, and UCLA.
