Writing in Law Practice: Pretrial Litigation

Course Description

This course is an advanced legal writing class that focuses on pretrial civil litigation in the context of a wage and hour employment lawsuit. In the course, students will learn complaints and answers, motions work, and methods of written discovery. Related to the assignments, there will be an emphasis on practice before federal courts, the Federal Rules, and case law. Although class assignments focus on legal writing, students will also learn valuable information in multiple areas of pretrial litigation, including factors that impact the disposition of a case.

The course will follow the life of a Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) case in federal court, however, the skills students acquire in this course will be applicable to a multitude of courts and case types.
