John A. Roberts spent over 30 years as a member of Baltimore law firms, including Venable LLP and Semmes, Bowen & Semmes, P.C., representing clients primarily in commercial bankruptcy and insolvency matters. Before entering private practice, John served as counsel to the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Employment and Training.  He has been a presenter, panelist, and moderator for presentations on bankruptcy law and unemployment insurance law for the Bankruptcy Bar Association of Maryland, the American Institute for Professional Development, ALFA International, and other organizations.  He has also co-authored books, articles, and seminar materials on bankruptcy law, Maryland Unemployment Insurance law, and the law of conscription.

John is the Chair of the Board of Directors of St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center, Baltimore’s oldest non-profit housing provider. He also volunteers his time, as a board member and consultant, with other non-profit arts and community organizations.

John received his undergraduate degree in History from the University of California at Irvine, and his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law.  He is a member of the 2009 Leadership Class of the Greater Baltimore Committee.
