Regulating Emerging Technologies
This course will explore issues that arise at the intersection of the regulation of emerging technologies and consumer protection. It will include consideration of a range of different technological developments, including advances in genetics, artificial intelligence, and the expanding use of algorithms and big data. It will examine the ways in which these technological developments and the ways in which they are impacting markets challenge the existing legal and regulatory framework protecting the public citizen. Students will be asked to consider not just the legal issues, but also the ethical and policy issues, raised by these emerging technologies and the ways in which they are being used.
