Rule 12.3 of the Bluebook specifies that statutes
should be cited to the official code when possible. Therefore,
the standard citation to a federal statute is as follows: 22 U.S.C. § 2567 (1983) If a statute section in its most up-to-date form does not yet appear in the official United States Code, cite to the United States Code Annotated or the United States Code Service.
