The Department of Housing and Community Development has incorporated by reference the following codes ("Model Performance Code," COMAR 05.02.02.02-1), under the authority of the Public Safety Article, 12-201 of the Annotated Code of Maryland:

The Maryland Fire Prevention Code (COMAR

by reference many codes, including the following:
• NFPA 1, Uniform Fire Code, 2003 Edition
• NFPA 101, Life Safety Code,2003 Edition
• International Building Code 2003
Municipalities' code provisions may vary from those listed above, pursuant
to the Public
Safety Article §§6-206 and 12-504, and the Business
Occupations and Professions Article, §12-206 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland. In addition, sources may reference various topical industry standards
and measures. Publishers of these materials include: the American National
Standards Institute (ANSI), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME),
Underwriters Laboratory (UL), American Gas Association (AGA), National Board
of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors, the National Sanitation Foundation,
and the National Bureau of Standards. Because of the varying and esoteric
nature of these standards, additional information about them will not be included
in this publication.

The International Building Code is the standard building code for all Maryland subdivisions and the basis for the Maryland Building Performance Standards (Annotated Code of Maryland, Public Safety Article, §12-501)
