Samantha Shofar is currently a senior attorney with the DC field office of the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) in the U.S. Department of Education, where she has worked for the last 13 years. In this role she investigates and resolves complaints of discrimination under all of the laws enforced by OCR, with a special emphasis in sexual and gender based harassment cases and cases involving students’ access to high track courses. She also develops and provides training to individuals at all levels of postsecondary and K-12 schools on a variety of issues related to civil rights in education. Before coming to the Metro office, she was a staff attorney in the Headquarters Office of OCR, working on such policy issues as Title IX athletics, and race and sex discrimination issues arising out of the implementation of high stakes testing. Ms. Shofar received both her B.A .and her J.D. from University of Maryland.
