Maryland Carey Law’s Thurgood Marshall National Trial Team, fielded by the school’s chapter of the Black Law Students Association (BLSA), advanced to the Mid-Atlantic regional quarterfinal round of the National Black Law Students Association’s (NBLSA) Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition for the 7th consecutive year.
Team members Anthony Howden (3L), Tierney Smithson (3L), Jazmine Dorsey (2L), and Vanessa Destime (2L) entered the regional quarterfinal round with a 3-0 record, ranking #1 out of 13 teams.
In addition to the team’s collective accomplishment, Vanessa Destime earned the Best Advocate Award for the tournament. Competition judges and opposing teams praised the team members for their preparation, professionalism, and advocacy skills. The team was coached by Revée Walters ‘11, Derrick Milburn ’13, Sakkara Turpin ’14, and Wayne Williams.
