Robert Percival delivers keynote on Global Transformation of Environmental Law

Robert Percival, the Robert F. Stanton Professor of Law and Director of the Environmental Law Program, delivered the keynote address at the ABA’s Section on Environmental, Energy and Resources Law (SEER) annual meeting. Percival spoke on the theme The Global Transformation of Environmental Law, highlighting how most countries in the world are dramatically strengthening their environmental standards at the very time environmental standards are coming under attack in the U. S. He noted the increasing importance of mixed public/private initiatives in improving environmental performance.

Professor Percival is widely recognized as an international expert in environmental law. His blog on global environmental law tackles critical issues created by ways globalization is transforming both law and legal education. Cross-border environmental problems -- like global warming and climate change -- require new kinds of transnational cooperative and coordinated solutions. He has a special interest in the ways that nations are adapting and translating environmental and regulatory policies from countries with very different legal and cultural traditions.

For two decades, Professor Percival has been the principal author of the country's most widely used casebook environmental law, Environmental Regulation: Law, Science & Policy. He has lectured across the globe in more than 25 countries on six continents. He is a founding member of the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law, the leading international body of environmental scholars, which will hold its annual colloquium at UM Carey Law School in the summer of 2012.
