Join UM Carey Law students and faculty for a performance of DeNovo, a documentary play that chronicles the story of Eric Chocy, a 14 year-old boy struggling to escape a virtual death sentence from gangs in Guatemala for the safety of the United States. Crafted entirely from immigration court transcripts, interviews and letters, De Novo was written and directed by Jeffrey Solomon; it will be performed by members of Houses of the Moon, a New York-based theatre company.
The performance will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1 in Westminster Hall. A short discussion among the actors and a local immigration attorney who works with young people follows the free performance. Complimentary empanadas will also be served. 20 student organizations co-sponsor the event.
