University Announces Search Committee for New SOL Dean

Bruce Jarrell, MD, FAC, senior vice president, chief academic research officer and professor of surgery at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, has announced the members of the committee that will lead the national search for a new dean of the University’s Francis King Carey School of Law. The committee includes faculty and staff recommended by their colleagues at the law school, distinguished graduates, and members of the legal and academic communities.

The search for a new dean will be an engaged, inclusive process, Dr. Jarrell said, and members of the law school community are encouraged to share their views with any search committee member.  The University has engaged executive search firm Isaacson, Miller to assist it, Dr. Jarrell noted, and hopes the Committee will conclude its work by March, 2014.

UM Carey Law’s current dean, Phoebe A. Haddon, announced in June that after five years of service, she will step down to return to the faculty.

Established in 1816, the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law is the third-oldest law school in the nation.  Its outstanding faculty, innovative programs, and diverse and talented study body make it one of the liveliest and most dynamic today. UM Carey Law is an integral part of the Baltimore-Washington legal and business community. It is located with five other professional schools on the University of Maryland, Baltimore's 61-acre research and technology complex in downtown Baltimore near the Inner Harbor.
