UM Carey Law’s Black Law Student Association (BLSA) will hold its 38th annual Scholarship & Awards Banquet on Friday, March 1. This year, the event will be the culmination of the group’s Black History Month celebration, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
The Hon. Alexander Wright, Jr., ’74, will keynote the event. Wright, a Baltimore native, is judge at large for the Maryland Court of Special Appeals and chair of the Maryland Commission on Judicial Disabilities. Dean Phoebe Haddon will deliver welcoming remarks at the celebration.
“The awards banquet is always special and a true celebration of diversity, but this year is particularly poignant given the anniversary of King’s speech,” said Haddon. “I am proud that our students are carrying on his legacy.”
The Scholarship & Awards Banquet will be held at the Johns Hopkins University Glass Pavilion. The event is open to the public, but tickets are required. Discounted rates are available for faculty and students.
