Susan Herrick is a Research Librarian and holds the position of Coordinator for the MSL Research Instruction Program and MPower Initiatives. She leads the library’s efforts in assisting various MPower the State initiatives, including the Master of Science in Law (MSL) and MLaw programs in College Park, the Agriculture Law Education Initiative (ALEI), the Task Force on Human Trafficking, and the MPower Virtual Research Library.
Susan teaches Advanced Legal Research and Advanced Legal Research: Health Law in both classroom and online formats. She is the library liaison to the student-published Journal of Health Care Law & Policy. Other activities include coordinating research workshops for law students entering summer employment; supervising work study students for the Library; and presenting on legislative and administrative research and on legal research instruction at local and national library association meetings.
Susan received her J.D., with honor, from University of Maryland School of Law and her M.S.L.S. from Case-Western Reserve University. In addition to practicing law, she also worked as a medical librarian and a law firm librarian before joining the staff of the Thurgood Marshall Law Library. She has authored a number of journal articles, tutorials, and presentations on legal research. She authored a CALI Lesson on Medical Research for Attorneys and co-authored a CALI lesson on Maryland Primary Authorities. She has also worked for Lexis-Nexis as an editor in the case law enhancements and annotated codes project.
She is active in various professional organizations including the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL), and is the former President of the Law Library Association of Maryland (LLAM).
