Career Development for J.D. Students 

At Maryland Carey Law, we help you prepare for your future legal career from your first year and well through graduation and initial employment.  We have a veteran team of professionals in the Career Development Office (CDO) whose efforts are dedicated solely to helping you explore career options and obtain legal experience leading postgraduate employment.

You are assigned to a CDO counselor immediately following the annual Orientation to the Career Development Office for 1D/2E students.  Thereafter, CDO counselors will work with you individually and in group environments to help you investigate your career interests, conduct your job search, and develop the skills to necessary to compete successfully in our recruiting programs and in the demanding legal job market. 

Plug Into Our Alumni Networks
Maryland Carey Law alumni are constant participants in the CDO’s year-round array of recruitment and professional development programs, including mentoring opportunities.  Alumni are actively involved in our fall and spring recruiting programs.  We are always inviting alumni to meet students through career panels, self-presentation and job search skill-building workshops, and a variety of networking events.  Additionally, our alumni participate in the CDO’s student mentoring initiatives and in one-on-one career chats with students and recent graduates.  As a law student, you are strongly encouraged to take advantage of these essential professional relationship-building activities.

One-on-One Career Counseling

CDO counselors offer individualized career advising on job search strategies, resume and job search correspondence, interviewing, job offers and hiring protocols, networking and self-presentation. We strongly encourage you to partner with a career counselor for guidance with your job search.
