Educational Debt Relief

College Cost Reduction & Access Act of 2007, Higher Education Reauthorization and College Opportunity Act of 2008 & Other Loan Repayment Assistance Programs

New federal legislation now provides educational debt relief for some law school graduates. Effective July 1, 2009 new statutes make possible income-based repayment plans and, for graduates in public service, loan forgiveness under certain circumstances. To see the most current and comprehensive updates on the federal programs, visit the Equal Justice Works website and the IBR site. We recommend you contact  the University of Maryland, Baltimore Student Financial Aid Office  to schedule an appointment to discuss any questions about these programs and your educational loans.

The Equal Justice Works website also provides information about state, law school and public service employer loan forgiveness and loan repayment assistance programs (LRAPs): www.equaljusticeworks.org. Additionally, you can review information about the University of Maryland School of Law Public Interest Loan Repayment Program.
