Maryland Carey Service Corps - Trips

Civil Law Trip

Mission: Provide legal assistance to the Mississippi Center for Justice, a nonprofit, public interest law firm committed to advancing racial and economic justice. Supported and staffed by attorneys, community leaders and volunteers, the Center develops and pursues strategies to combat discrimination and poverty statewide on issues ranging from public housing needs to constitutional rights when interacting with local law enforcement. Students then conduct public outreach by preparing files for referral to attorneys, or developing in-person and/or media presentations which are provided back to the target community. The educational resources provided by students are vital to empowering advocates and residents to access services, avoid scams, and understand fundamental rights.
