Philanthropy is the spirit of active goodwill toward others as demonstrated in efforts to promote their welfare.
One distinguishing feature of the PDP Paca Inn legal fraternity is our dedication to philanthropy. For the past few years we have been dedicated to providing service to the community through a variety of activities. For instance, each year we hold a Community Service Week, sponsor Canned Immunity and participate in a variety of other activities. In 2005 we volunteered our time with the Baltimore BELIEVE organization painting at a local Baltimore High School. We also sponsored an event for the benefit of the Community Law In Action program in Baltimore City supporting Baltimore Youth leaders.
Each November University of Maryland professors support PDP's annual canned food drive. Participating professors temporarily forego the Socratic method for those students who provide canned food. If a student is called on during this time period, a canned food good may be offered in lieu of answering a question. However, a professor may trump the student by returning additional canned food or monetary donations to the food drive. Of course you may continue to offer canned food. Some Professors who have provided support to this event include our Faculty Advisor Professor Gifford, Professors Bogen, Boldt, Citron, Colbert, Koller, Monopoli, Norton, Reynolds, and Power. Thanks to their generous support our organization was able to raise 1,700 lbs of food.
PDP is also active in the local Maryland attorney's campaign to alleviate hunger. Each year our philanthropy chair has a position on the Executive Board for the LCAH. We hold events to educate students about hunger related issues and fundraise to support this campaign. Since 1988 the LCAH has raised over $1,900,000.
