Phi Delta Phi International Legal Fraternity, Paca Inn

Phi Delta Phi (PDP) is an honors international legal fraternity aspiring to promote the highest standard of professional ethics and desiring to unite ourselves for the purpose of achieving these goals. Organized in 1869, PDP is among the oldest legal organizations in North America.

PDP has one hundred and thirty-one active chapters -- called Inns -- in the Western Hemisphere and the number increases yearly. PDP has initiated in excess of 200,000 members making it the world's largest legal fraternity whose membership is restricted to students and practitioners of the law.

Paca Inn was established in April 1992 and named in honor of William Paca. Most notably William Paca is recognized as a Maryland signatory to the Declaration of Independence. However, he was also a prominent Maryland attorney and jurist. During his legal career he was distinguished for his integrity and dignity. From 1778 to 1780 he served as the chief justice of the supreme court of Maryland. In 1780 he was promoted to chief judge of the court of appeals for admiralty and maritime. In addition, William Paca served as Governor of Maryland from 1782-1785. He was later appointed as a federal district judge and served from 1789 until his death in 1799.

Today the goals of Paca Inn reflect those aspired in 1869:


• To keep informed students and faculty about current ethical concerns in the legal community.
• To promote fraternity and professional development with PDP members and members of the legal community.
• To support our community through service oriented events and philanthropy. To encourage and support academic and professional achievement.
