MELS Purchases Carbon Offsets

Since 2007, MELS raises money every year to purchase carbon offsets to help combat climate change. For more information about carbon offsets, please visit Terrapass.

Maryland Environmental Law Society - carbon balanced with TerraPass

2010: 250 metric tons (551,556 pounds)
2009: 200 metric tons (440,925 pounds)
2008: 400,000 lbs.
2007: 450,000 lbs.


MELS Retires 76 tons on SO2 

Since 1994, MELS successfully bid and retired 76 tons of SO2, thereby reducing the allowable sulfur dioxide emissions that regulated stationary sources are permitted to emit nationwide.

2004: 5 tons
2002: 9 tons
2001: 7 tons
2000: 10 tons
1999: 11 tons
1998: 4 tons
1997: 13 tons
1996: 11 tons
1995:4 tons
1994: 1 ton
