Ian Anthony born and raised in Pikesville, returns to the area after an 8-year stint in NYC. Four years of college and four years as an actor were enough, thank you, and thus he finds himself surrounded by the fabulous LS-ers. Areas of legal interest include International Human Rights and Environmental Law. Areas of non-legal interest include astronomy, travel, and not eating animals. Previous music experience includes: Baltimore Symphony Choir, Tanglewood Institute, Clefhangers (Columbia University), and various musical productions. Shout out to all the other LS-ers. Thanks for a great distraction from reading! Proud member of Actors' Equity.
Kelly Bowles was born and raised in Louisville, KY. She graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in Political Science and Women's and Gender Studies. She married her high school sweetheart, Matt Spalding, in May 2009, and they moved to Baltimore to attend Law School and graduate school at MICA, respectively. Kelly started singing hardcore in high school with Presentation Academy's group "The Prezettes." And there she found her love for singing, especially singing musicals. She wants to practice law so she can effectively help marginalized populations through non-profits.
Greg Cooke has been involved with the stage since high school, but if you ask his parents he's been hamming it up since he left the womb. He started doing musicals and straight plays in high school and joined the Saint Johns Mens Chorus in college (in addition to a couple plays). He graduated from St. Johns in 2009 with a degree in liberal studies, and took the natural leap to law school. He's lived in Maryland his entire life (except for a brief stopover in Minnesota), and is a 3L at Maryland Law.
Sunny Cowell (Maryland Law Class of 2013) is 21 years old and recently graduated from Swarthmore College in 2010 with an Honors major in Sociology and Anthropology and Honors minor in Film and Media Studies. During her undergraduate years, she sang in and managed Swarthmore's only R&B/Soul a cappella group, Essence of Soul. Sunny not only sings, but also plays the violin and the viola, dabbling in both contemporary, classical, and jazz music genres. This year, she is excited to sing with Legally Sound and also to sing the alto part for the first time in a singing group.
Elise Henry has enjoyed singing in choirs her whole life and is excited to be singing with Legally Sound. She is originally from Miami, FL, and graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in Judaic studies. Before completing her degree, she lived in Tel Aviv, Israeli, for four years. She studied musicology at Tel Aviv University, where she took courses in harmony and composition. She hopes to find the time to arrange songs for the group, perhaps after her 1L year is over. While studying law is lots of fun for Elise, practicing and performing with Legally Sound adds a good measure of joy to her law school experience.
Mario Hernandez-Gerety grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico and graduated from the University of New Mexico. He got his start singing in his sophomore year of high school when the school's choir teacher heard him singing in the hallway and asked him to audition. Since then he has sung in choirs such as the California-based Westminster Chorus (2009 'Choir of the World' Pavarotti Trophy winners and the International Chorus Gold Medalists of the Barbershop Harmony Society for 2007) and other award winning quartets and a cappella groups. In his spare time he likes to play sports, video games, and the piano.
Jonathan Herrington has been involved with music from a very young age. He started dancing at age 4, singing at age 10, and acting at age 11. He has competed in dance competitions in Las Vegas and New York City, and performed with a tap company in Los Angeles the summer before he started college. This is Jonathan's first jump back into anything musical since giving it all up before majoring in business at Temple University. He is excited to have the opportunity to perform once again.
Christie Hill is a part of the Class of 2014 here at Maryland Law. She graduated from the University of Maryland in 2010 with a degree in finance. In high school, she was a member of the school's Madrigals singing group, where she first developed her love for a capella music. She also sang in the choir and was a part of several musicals and plays, both on stage and behind the scenes. When she's not harmonizing with Legally Sound or buried in law books, Christie loves spending time with friends and family and watching sports (Go Ravens!).
Originally from Alabama, Rebecca Maddox is a second year law student who came to Maryland after graduating from Vanderbilt University. Rebecca's singing story began when a choir director told her at a young age that she had perfect pitch. Years of choirs and voice lessons ensued from there. She had an amazing time singing in an acapella group in high school, Lillith, and she is loving singing in an acapella group again! Besides singing and having fun with Legally Sound, Rebecca is most interested in environmental law, public interest law, and reproductive justice, and in her free time, she plays with her dog Carmen, experiments with cooking new dishes, and dabbles with dancing.
Hailing from the Philadelphia area, Jonathan Nagel came straight to law school from Ursinus College. After studying International Relations and Politics and spending as much time abroad as he could, he joined his first a cappella group here at UMB. His musical history entails a slew of choral programs (schools, churches, regional, state, American Music Abroad, and more), classical training, opera, chamber, and the occasional dabbling in guitar and piano. Jonathan also has a small passion for languages, and a much larger passion for food. He's looking at getting into International Law.
Eshawn Rawlley is a member of the Class of 2014. He graduated from The George Washington University in Washington, DC where he performed with GW Geet, a South Asian fusion a cappela group. His modest vocal talent was discovered when, after opting for spotlight duty in the middle school musical, he was persuaded by his drama teacher to accept a leading role in the show. He has since been ablaze with the fiery hot passion of music-making. In addition to singing, Eshawn is an avid guitarist with designs to eventually start a rock & roll band and tour all over the world, or the greater metropolitan area. For now, he is content with pursuing a law degree while keepin' it loose & tight with Legally Sound.
Laura Ruiz grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico and at age 19 left this wonderful little piece of paradise to go to the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she majored in International Relations. Laura has always had a love for music. She first started singing in her elementary school choir, and as a member of her high school choir, performed in Epcot park in Disney World, Orlando. She unfortunately hasn't performed since, so she is very excited to start singing again with Legally Sound! Although her 2L year has been very busy, on her spare time Laura likes to play the piano, dance salsa until the wee morning hours, and play with her hyperactive, dog-like cat, Dusty.
