WELCOME

Maryland Law Katrina Project is comprised of more than hundred law students at the University of Maryland School of Law. The group was informally created in March 2006 in response to the overwhelming need that still exists in New Orleans two years since the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

Law students have donated their valuable vacation time to the rebuilding efforts of various Gulf Coast towns; working with the New Orleans Office of the Public Defender, focusing on bond hearings and prison conditions; and working with the Mississippi Center for Justice on civil legal matters, including the FEMA grant assistance system.
