The ILS is the focal point for international activities of the student body in the law school. Activities in the past have included: coordinating and staging three regional conferences of the American Society of International Law; assisting the American Bar Association to hold a Law Profession Workshop on Chinese Connection and Normalization; assisting the American Association for Chinese Studies to hold its annual meeting; and sponsoring a speaker series in international law at the law school. Projects vary from year to year according to the needs of the international legal community and the interest of the students.
Additionally, the ILS sponsors law school participation in the Jessup International Moot Court Competition, which is held each spring at the annual meeting of the American Society of International Law in nearby Washington, DC.
