The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law Career Development Office (CDO) prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, age, ethnic origin, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity and expression, in any stage of employment. The School of Law’s facilities and programs sponsored by the CDO are available only to employers whose practices are consistent and in agreement with this non-discrimination policy.
In accordance with the American Bar Association rules of accreditation, the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law does not permit full-time students to be employed more than 20 hours per week during the academic year, nor does the School of Law permit first-year full-time (Day Division) students to be employed during the academic year. The Career Development Office reserves the right not to post position listings that are inconsistent with its policies.
To facilitate ethical hiring practices that comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Career Development Office will only list unpaid law clerk or intern positions affiliated with School of Law academic programs or positions posted by public service and nonprofit organizations, public interest law firms or public interest organizations providing legal services for underrepresented people or causes. For information on FLSA, please visit the U.S. Department of Labor website at: http://wdr.doleta.gov/directives and http://www.dol.gov/compliance/laws/comp-flsa.htm. The Career Development Office reserves the right not to post position listings that are inconsistent with its policies.
Employers that contact the CDO to post job listings are required to affirm that they will observe the CDO’s non-discrimination policy. As a service to students and graduates, the CDO also actively reviews Internet job boards and classifieds in search of job and intern postings for the benefit of UM Carey Law job-seekers. Further, our office receives from third-parties job listings that we verify and then post in the UMD-Symplicity Job Bank. While some of these job listings include non-discrimination employer policies, some of the listings do not include employer non-discrimination policies. In these cases, we will provide within the individual job posting links to the original source or the specific employer’s websites. By posting these job listings from third-party sources, the CDO does not represent that these employers are in full compliance with the School of Law’s non-discrimination policy.
