Maryland Environmental Law Society
FOCUS THE NATION 2008 at University of Maryland, Baltimore
On January 31st students across the country brought together educators, policymakers, activists, and stakeholders to concentrate on climate solutions in a national teach-in called
“Focus the Nation”. This grassroots, student-led initiative to raise awareness of climate change issues and discuss policy solutions, took place at over 1,100 universities, colleges and institutions of higher learning. University of Maryland Law students were determined to do their part to contribute in some way to the climate policy debate through the pursuit of positive, constructive discussion of real action and the real sacrifices necessary to achieve it.
University of Maryland law students celebrated Focus the Nation through a series of panel discussions on different aspects of the issue. The event, organized by members of the Maryland Environmental Law Society, attracted distinguished panelists from within different quarters of the climate policy field, among them keynote speaker, Maryland Secretary of the Environment, Shari Wilson. During the symposium, four panel discussions (
Climate Change and Maryland Legislation,
Climate Change and Energy,
Climate Change and the Law, and
Science and the Effects of Climate Change) provided an opportunity to involve the student body and community members in the conversation. For a complete list of the symposium’s speakers and events, please
