Other Efforts

Single, flavorful cigars can be made less attractive and accessible to youth by regulatory measures aside from packaging and flavoring. The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, corollary regulations and existing State and local measures illustrate the breadth of possibilities, including:

Clear air
  • Increase taxes on OTP
  • Enhance product warnings
  • Restrict the sale, use and distribution of cigars
E.g. New York City Health Code 181 .19
  • Require bigger, bolder health warnings
  • Regulate product placement
  • License cigar retailers
