At the School of Law, students truly learn the meaning of the lawyer as a problem solver. As the role of the attorney continually changes, the Center for Dispute Resolution at the University of Maryland School of Law (C-DRUM) works to create a variety of opportunities for students to enhance their conflict resolution skills. Whether as an attorney, mediator, or arbitrator, students who participate in C-DRUM experiences will be able to better serve their clients.
An integral part of the law school, C-DRUM is a comprehensive dispute resolution center for policy, scholarship, and professional skill development relating to problem-solving in law and society. C-DRUM’s mission is to collaborate with public and private institutions, groups, and individuals to study, enhance, and teach conflict resolution; to research and develop conflict resolution systems; and to promote effective, ethical dispute resolution in legal education and practice and in society more broadly.
Through the education of law students and provision of conflict resolution services throughout the state of Maryland, C-DRUM furthers the law school's goal of maintaining high academic standards while providing service to the surrounding community.
C-DRUM administers the Conflict Resolution Education Grants Program, under which all Maryland K-12 public schools are eligible. This grant program is made available through a collaborative partnership between the Maryland Judiciary's Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO), MSDE and the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law's Center for Dispute Resolution (C-DRUM). The Schools Conflict Resolution Program Monograph highlights past successful programs.
The Grant Announcement and Applications for the upcoming academic year 2013-2014 are now available below. The deadline for submission is May 3, 2013.
