At the School of Law, students truly learn the meaning of the lawyer as a problem solver. As the role of the attorney continually changes, the Center for Dispute Resolution at the University of Maryland School of Law (C-DRUM) works to create a variety of opportunities for students to enhance their conflict resolution skills. Whether as an attorney, mediator, or arbitrator, students who participate in C-DRUM experiences will be able to better serve their clients.
Established in 2002 as a comprehensive dispute resolution center, C-DRUM's mission is to work collaboratively with public and private institutions as well as individuals and groups to:
Through the development of an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) concentration and provision of conflict resolution services throughout the state of Maryland, C-DRUM furthers the law school's goal of maintaining high academic standards while providing service to the surrounding community.
C-DRUM administers the Conflict Resolution Education Grants Program, under which all Maryland K-12 public schools are eligible. This grant program is made available through a collaborative partnership between the Maryland Judiciary's Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO), MSDE and the University of Maryland School of Law's Center for Dispute Resolution (C-DRUM). Applications to attend a two day Peer Mediation Train-the-Trainer Workshop in Annapolis on November 3rd and 4th, 2010 are now being accepted from public educators interested in launching new peer mediation programs at the elementary, middle school or high school levels. More Information »
