About These Shining Lives
The Twenties are roaring and the women of the Radium Dial Company have found steady work in comfortable conditions
at extraordinary pay. Over time, though, their apparent good fortune gives way to a crippling reality. With tremendous dignity and integrity, four fiercely determined friends organize and fight back against corporate deceit and criminal cowardice.
View the Thurgood Marshall Law Library's resources on the play and the discussion.
Before the premiere, enjoy a bistro-style dinner with wine as a panel of experts presents “Women’s Work.” Ranging from the characters in the play to contemporary cases like Johnson Controls, this discussion will address the development of occupational medicine from the 1920s until today, the legal system’s evolving eff orts to adequately protect workers’ health, and the exploitation of and discrimination against women workers.
Panelists will include:
The discussion and dinner are funded in part by a generous grant from the France-Merrick Foundation to the University of Maryland School of Law’s Linking Law & the Arts series.
CENTERSTAGE’s production of These Shining Lives has been generously supported by Whiteford, Taylor & Preston.
