When Governor O'Malley called a Special Session of the General Assembly on October 15, 2007, there was renewed interest in the subject of gambling in Maryland. The Thurgood Marshall Law Library has created this research page to help satisfy the demand for information on this topic. With the exception of links to bills introduced in the special session, the sources covered here are primarily historical. To keep abreast of current news stories, go to the Baltimore Sun web page. There is also a special page for Slot Machines in Maryland on the Baltimore Sun web page.

Finding Books and Articles

There are many places to look for additional information in the form of books and articles. One of the best sources of information is the Catalog of the Thurgood Marshall Law Library. Searching by the following subjects will retrieve a number of valuable titles: Gambling - Maryland, Video Lottery Terminals - Maryland, Casinos - Maryland and Horse Racing - Maryland.

Free databases are also a source of information. Newspaper web pages such as those of the Baltimore Sun, Washington Post, the City Paper, Afro-American , and the Baltimore Examiner contain up to date stories on gambling in Maryland. A Google search will also produce some good results.
