The Indoor Smoking Ban & More Baltimore City Council Legislation
For the past year, Baltimore City Council has joined the bandwagon with other local government bodies to make its legislation available online. The bill to ban indoor smoking, signed by the Mayor on February 28, and other bills of the City Council are readily available to the public on the City Council's Legislative Information Center
The text of the initial legislative file, the bill text upon first and third readings, and the legislative history, when available, can be found by searching the basic or advanced Legislative File Search on the ID number. Using the example of the ban on indoor smoking Council Bill 05-0073, search on Legislative File ID Number 05-0073. If the bill's ID number is unknown, search by keyword, in this case terms such as "tobacco" and "smoking," or start with the Council Agenda for the day of action on the bill to locate the ID number. In addition to search fields Keywords and File ID, Advanced Search allows searches by Matter Status, Matter Type, Index Term, Sponsor, Controlling Body, Introduction Date, and Final Action Date. The site covers bills from 1999.
