Gradebook
The Gradebook allows instructors to manage all aspects of student
grading from within the course. Instructors may also download the
gradebook as a delimited file that can be read using Microsoft Excel.
You must use the Control Panel to manage the Gradebook.
- Select the Control Panel button from the Tools section
below your course menu.
- On the right side of the Control Panel page under Assessment, select
Gradebook to open the Gradebook View Spreadsheet page.

- Select the + Add item button from the left side of the Gradebook
management toolbar.
The Add/Modify Gradebook Item page opens.

- Enter a Name for the new Gradebook item.
- Select a category, such as Assignment, Group Project, Homework, or Quiz from the drop-down menu.
- Enter a description for the item.

- Select a date for the item from the drop-down list or click the Calendar icon to
choose a date.
- Enter the maximum number of points possible for the item.
- Select how the grade should be displayed from the drop-down list.
- Accept the default of Yes to make the item available to users.
- Select Yes or No to include the score in
Gradebook score calculations.
- Click the Submit button. You will receive a confirmation message.

- You will receive a Success message. Click the OK button twice to return to the Control Panel.

- Select the Control Panel button from the Tools section
below your course menu.
- On the right side of the Control Panel page under Assessment,
select Gradebook to open the Gradebook
View Spreadsheet page.

- Locate the student who you wish to grade. Move your mouse pointer to the dash marks on the student row in the column of the added item that you wish to grade. Click on the dash marks.

- Enter the grade in the Grade input box.
- Click the Submit button.

- You will receive a Success message. Click the OK button to return to the Gradebook.

- Select the Control Panel button from the Tools section
below your course menu.
- On the right side of the Control Panel page under Assessment,
select Gradebook to open the Gradebook
View Spreadsheet page.

- Click the Download Grades button.

- Select either comma or tab for the file delimiter. Microsoft Excel will automatically open either format.
- Click the Submit button.

- Click the Download button on the Download Gradebook page. If you use right-click, select the
Save Target As.. selection from the pop-up menu.
- Click the Save button to save the file.
If you click the Open button, the file will open in Blackboard as a spreadsheet.

If you'd like to use a grade of Complete/Incomplete or some other text that you'd like to communicate,
you can change the scoring of the grade at any time.
- Select the Control Panel button from the Tools section
below your course menu.
- On the right side
of the Control Panel page under Assessment, select
Gradebook to open the Gradebook View Spreadsheet page.

- From the Gradebook View Spreadsheet, select the Assignment title to open
the Item Options page.

- On the Item Options page, select the Item Information link to open Add/Modify Gradebook Item.

- Use the drop-down menu Display As: to select Complete/Incomplete.

- Under Options, accept the default of Yes to make the item available in the gradebook.
- Select No to exclude the item from Gradebook calculations.
- Click Submit to complete your changes.

- You will receive a message that the Gradebook Item successfully updated.
Click the OK button twice to return to the Gradebook View Spreadsheet.

- A green
check mark will represent a complete assignment.
