Assessment
Blackboard offers two assessment tools, Surveys
and Tests, which will
allow you to perform a wide variety of assessment exercises
such as testing and evaluating your student's understanding
of certain concepts, performing opinion polls, and administering
course evaluations. Depending on your goal, you can choose to
allow students to record their answers anonymously (Surveys),
or you can assign point values to each question for grading
(Tests).
You may create a test in any content area by using the add content toolbar or drop-down menu while in
the EDIT VIEW page.
- Select a content area where you want to add a test.
- Open a folder if necessary.
- Select the EDIT VIEW link at the top right corner of the content display page.

- Click on the + Test button to open the Add Test page.

- Click the Create button to open the Test Manager

- Give the test a name.
- Provide a description.

- Enter instructions that the student should follow.
- Click the Submit button.

- On the Test Canvas page, choose the type of question you want to add to
your test from the drop-down menu.
- Click the Go button.

- You will then provide the text for the question.
- Next enter the point value for this question.

- You can control answer numbering or orientation, allow partial
credit, and show answers in random order in the Options
section.

- If you want to provide feedback, enter the response for correct and incorrect answers.

- You may define categories, levels of difficulty, topics, and keywords in the Categories and Keywords section.
- Click the Submit button to return to the Test Canvas page where you may add another question to your test.

- You may modify a question by choosing the Modify button on the right-side of the Test Canvas page.
- Select the Add Question Here link to add another question.
- You may change the order of your questions by using the drop-down menu on the left-side of the of the Test Canvas page.
- Click the OK button to return to the Add Test page.

- Click the Submit button to add the test.

- You will receive a Success message. Click the OK button to return the the EDIT VIEW page.

You may create a survey in any content area by using the add content toolbar or drop-down menu while in
the EDIT VIEW page.
Surveys are anonymous. You will see in the Gradebook whether
a student has submitted a survey, but you will not be able to
view their individual response.
- Select a content area where you want to add a survey.
- Open a folder if necessary.
- Select the EDIT VIEW link at the top right corner of the content display page.

- Use the drop-down menu on the right-side of the add content toolbar to select Survey.
- Click the OK button to open the Add
Survey page.

- Click the Create button to open the Survey Information page.

- Give the Survey a name (required).
- Enter a description.

- Provide instructions.
- Click the Submit button.

- On the Survey Canvas page, choose the type of question you want to add
to your test from the drop-down menu.
- Click the Go button.

- You will then provide the text of the question.

- You can control answer numbering, orientation, allow partial credit, and show answers in random
order in the Options section.

- You may change the number of answers and the text for a likert scale survey.

- You may define categories, levels of difficulty, topics, and keywords in the Categories and Keywords section.
- Click the Submit button to return to the Survey Canvas page where you may add another question to your test.

- You may modify a question by choosing the Modify button on the right-side of the Survey Canvas page.
- Select the Add Question Here link to add another question.
- You may change the order of your questions by using the drop-down menu on the left-side of the of the Survey Canvas page.
- Click the OK button to return to the Add Survey page.

- Click the Submit button to add the selected survey.

- You will receive a Success message. Click the OK button to return the the EDIT VIEW page.

When you add a Test to your course, it will not become available
until you Modify its Options.
- Open the content area where you placed
a test or survey and select the EDIT VIEW
link at the
right-hand corner of the content page.

- Select the Modify button to the right of the test link you want to make available.

- You may choose to open the Test in a new window.
- Make the link available by selecting yes
and select yes to add a new announcement
for the Test.
- You may also choose to set a timer and force completion within a certain amount of time.
- If you only want the Test available for a certain length
of time, use the Display After and Display
Until settings.

- Select the feedback you would like to provide.
- Choose your Test Presentation.
- Click the Submit button.

- You will receive a Success message. Click the OK
button twice to return the the
EDIT VIEW page.
You may also click any of the navigational links at the top of the content display page.

When you add a Survey to your course, it will not become available
until you Modify its Options.
- Open the content area where you placed
a survey and select the EDIT VIEW link at the
right-hand corner of the content page.

- Select the Modify button to the right of the survey link you want to make available.

- You may choose to open the survey in a new window.
- Make the link available by selecting yes and add a new announcement for the survey.
- You may also choose to set a timer and force completion within a certain amount of time.
- If you only want the survey available for a certain length of time, use the
Display After and Display Until settings.

- Select the feedback you would like to provide.
- Choose your Survey Presentation.
- Click the Submit button.
- You will receive a Success message. Click the OK
button twice to return the the
EDIT VIEW page.
You may also click any of the navigational links at the top of the content display page.

The Pool Manager allows instructors to store assessment questions for repeated
use during a class. Instructors may add questions from existing assessments
or create new questions.
- Select the Control Panel button from the Tools section
below your course menu.
- On the right side of the Control Panel under Assessment,
select the Pool Manager link.

- Click the + Add Pool button.

- Type a Name, Description and list any Instructors in the boxes provided.
- Click the Submit button.

- Use a drop-down menu to select the type of question you would like to add
and click GO. The default is Calculated Formula.

To see an example of a question form, see either the Survey Canvas
or the Test Canvas.
- Select the Control Panel button from the Tools section
below your course menu.
- On the right side of the Control Panel under Assessment,
select the Pool Manager link.

- Select the + Import button to upload a file that contains test questions.

- The Pool Import page opens. Use the Browse button to locate a file.
- Click the Submit button.

Results of existing tests or surveys are displayed in the Gradebook.
- Select the Control Panel button from the Tools section
below your course menu.
- On the right side of the Control Panel under Assessment,
select the Gradebook link.

- On the Gradebook View Spreadsheet, find the column for the test or survey
and click the name at the top.

- On the Item Options page, select Assessment Attempt Details.

- Click the Submit button to go back to the Item Options page.
