After working for various Department of Defense and civilian agencies throughout his career Guy Miller joins the faculty in 2012 as a clinical law instructor in the Intellectual Property Law Clinic, Maryland Intellectual Property Legal Resource Center. Professor Miller received his JD from the University of Baltimore School of Law, his Masters of Engineering Administration from the George Washington University and his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland.

Prior to joining the law school Professor Miller held various leadership positions including Agency Lead Counsel for Intellectual Property at NASA Headquarters, Chief Patent Counsel at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, and Team Leader, Intellectual Property Law Branch at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory. His intellectual property practice has included patent drafting and prosecution, copyrights, trademarks and data rights. In addition to filing patent applications in the electrical and mechanical arts, he has extensive experience negotiating many complex patent licensing agreements and other transactional matters. Throughout his career he has given legal seminars and classes to highly educated science and engineering professionals on various intellectual property topics. He has also mentored numerous patent attorneys on patent practice, technology utilization and technology transfer.

Professor Miller is a member of the Maryland and DC bars, the Federal District Court of Maryland, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and is a registered Patent Attorney with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He is a past president of the Government Intellectual Property Law Association, member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
