Cassie Motz currently serves as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Martin O’Malley. During the Governor’s first term, she served as Deputy Legal Counsel to the Governor.
Cassie grew up in Baltimore and graduated from Dartmouth College in 1993 and Yale Law School in 1998. In between college and law school, she taught fifth and sixth grades at a public school in the South Bronx through the Teach for America program. After law school, she clerked for U.S. District Judge James Robertson in the District of Columbia. She then joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., where she spent five years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, prosecuting mostly domestic violence and homicide cases. Cassie then moved to the District of Columbia’s Attorney General’s Office, where she spent two years as the Deputy Attorney General for the Family Services Division, representing the city’s child welfare and mental health agencies. In 2007, she joined Governor O’Malley’s legal office.
