Karyn Marsh has worked in the environmental field for more than 20 years, first as a geologist and later as an attorney. Ms. Marsh has experience with a wide range of environmental issues, including groundwater contamination and regulatory compliance with State and Federal environmental statutes, such as the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and the Federal Water Pollution Control Act. Currently, Ms. Marsh is an attorney in the Washington, DC office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher where she is a member of the firm's Environmental Litigation and Mass Tort Practice Group. Her practice focuses on the environmental aspects of transactions and regulatory compliance.
Since joining the firm in 2007, Ms. Marsh has worked on hundreds transactions. She has negotiated the environmental provisions for purchase and sale agreements, stock purchase agreements, asset purchase agreements, separation agreements, credit agreements, leases, and other transactional agreements for the sale of public and private companies, assets, and commercial real estate.
In addition to her transactional experience, Ms. Marsh has worked extensively on complex litigation and toxic tort matters, both after law school, as an attorney representing plaintiffs’ in groundwater contamination cases for three years, and prior to law school, as a paralegal working on the defense of groundwater contamination cases in California. She was also a Law Fellow with the University of Maryland Center for Health and Homeland Security immediately after completing law school. Prior to her legal career, Ms. Marsh was a hydrogeologist performing a variety of environmental investigations for over eight years.
Ms. Marsh received her law degree with a certificate in Environmental Law in 2003 from the University of Maryland, Francis King Carey School of Law, where she was a Notes and Comments Editor on the Maryland Law Review and member of the Environmental Moot Court team. Ms. Marsh also holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from Villanova University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geosciences from The Pennsylvania State University.
Ms. Marsh is a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia Bars and the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. She is also registered as a Certified Professional Geologist in Virginia.
