Deputy Director of the School of Law's Center for Dispute Resolution and Clinical Law Instructor for the Mediation Clinic, Toby Guerin joined the School of Law in 2004. In her role as Deputy Director, she oversees the program development, conflict resolution services, research, and publications of C-DRUM. She also directs the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Externship Program, advises students pursuing a concentration in ADR, serves as the advisor for two student organizations- the ADR Group and Mediators Beyond Borders, and coaches the annual student Representation in Mediation Team.
In recent years, Ms. Guerin has worked to expand the people served by the Mediation Clinic and as an instructor with the Mediation Clinic, will work with Clinical Students to experience the role of the mediator and the relationship between alternative and traditional legal processes.
Ms. Guerin remains active in Maryland's alternative dispute resolution and legal communities. From 2004-2006 she served as the chairperson of the Mediator Excellence Council, a representative group of stakeholders working to develop a state-wide mediator quality assistance program. In addition, she mediates as a volunteer for community and state agency mediation programs and was the 2009 Volunteer of the Year for the Anne Arundel Conflict Resolution Center. A graduate of the Maryland State Bar Association's Maryland Leadership Academy, Ms. Guerin currently serves as a member of the Leadership Academy Committee.
Ms. Guerin graduated magna cum laude and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1998. In 2002, she was awarded a juris doctor degree from the University of Maryland School of Law. While attending law school, Ms. Guerin served as the Notes and Comments Editor for the MARGINS: The Maryland Journal on Race, Religion, Gender, and Class and was the co-founder and President of the ADR Group. Ms. Guerin is an admitted member of the Maryland Bar.
