José Bahamonde-González is the Associate Dean for Professional Education. In this capacity, he is responsible for all aspects of the promotional outreach, recruitment and enrollment of students for the Master of Science in Law (MSL) program. He also coordinates the MSL Professional Development Lecture Series and is involved in curriculum development and coordination of facilities for the program. He also provides professional development lectures and career counseling to all Master of Laws (LLM) domestic and foreign students, as well as to all foreign students in the Juris Doctor program. Dean Bahamonde-González is the Advisor to the Latino/a Law Student Association (LLSA).
Dean Bahamonde-González presents lectures on topics related to professional development, careers, job search and employer outreach strategies. transition and strategies and provides individual. He also provides individual career counseling to MSL and LLM students addressing issues related to of interviewing skills, time management, job transition, as well as developing effective learning and studying skills for MSL and LLM students.
Dean Bahamonde-González is also the Inaugural Chair and Member of the Diversity Advisory Council (DAC) of the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus. He serves on the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) Diversity Committee and is an active member of the Student Services Section of the Association of American Law Schools. An active member of the National Association for Law Placement (NALP) since 1992, Dean Bahamonde-González has served as NALP Vice President, Chair of the Leadership/Membership Diversity Task Force and the Board of Directors. By request, he serves on Law School Accreditation Teams of the American Bar Association (ABA), Council for Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar.
Prior to joining the Maryland Carey Law community, José Bahamonde-González served as Assistant Director for Career Services & Coordinator for Minority Affairs at the Georgetown University Law Center from 1992 to 1994. He was appointed Assistant Dean for the Career Planning Center at the University of Miami School of Law in 1994. He was then appointed Assistant Dean for Career Development at the University of Maryland School of Law in August 1997 and Assistant Dean for Administration, Finance & Technology in August of 1998. In August of 1999, he was named Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs and Student Services.
Dean Bahamonde-González earned his B.S. in Management from the University of Massachusetts and his J.D. from the Syracuse University College of Law. He is a frequent speaker on topics related to student professional development, career services, diversity, recruitment, hiring and retention, as well as law school administrative and financial matters.
