Kathryn Frey-Balter was a federal public defender for the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the District of Maryland from 1992 until 2018 where she represented clients charged with federal crimes in U.S. District Court. She taught Trial Practice at Catholic University School of Law from 1998 until 2012. She has also taught at the George Washington University School of Continuing Education. In addition to teaching at the University of Maryland School of Law, Ms. Frey-Balter is a 2018 Imagining Justice in Baltimore Fellow at the Institute for Islamic, Christian, and Jewish Studies, and she is a freelance writer. In 2005, she was named Adjunct Faculty of the Year from University of Maryland School of Law.
