Biography
M. Teresa Schmiedeler currently serves as the Director, Asper Fellowships & Public Interest Initiatives at the University of Maryland School of Law. Ms. Schmiedeler also is the Asper Academic Administrator for the School of Law's Asper Fellowship Program. Also, she promotes community service and pro bono opportunities to Asper fellows and Maryland Public Interest Law Project (MPILP) law student organization. This program offers law students the opportunity to obtain credit for supervised law-related work with state and federal judges and with attorneys employed by government agencies and public interest organizations. Prior to her position at Maryland, Ms. Schmiedeler worked as the assistant director and public interest coordinator at a D.C. law school and also practiced law for seven years as a Legal Aid attorney in Connecticut and Missouri. She is a member of the Maryland Pro Bono Coordinating Council, AALS Section on Pro Bono & Public Service Opportunities, Maryland State Bar Association, Delivery of Legal Services, NALP Public Service Committee, Civil Justice Board of Directors, UMD President’s Outreach Council and Faculty Advisor to the Maryland Public Interest Law Project (MPILP) law student organization.
