Mr. Ashton is a litigation partner at the global law firm of DLA Piper, where he has worked since 1997. He represents individuals and local, national, and multinational corporations in lawsuits involving class actions, mass torts, consumer protection statutes, contract disputes, shareholders' rights and fiduciary duties of officers and directors. He heads the Diversity and Inclusion Committee for the Firm's Baltimore offices and formerly served as the Chair of DLA Piper's national African American/Black Affinity Group. In 2015, Mr. Ashton was on a panel regarding legal ethics and serving as outside counsel at the national convention for National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). In 2014, Mr. Ashton moderated a panel on the legal aspects of diversity in admissions policies at the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) Annual Conference. In 2013, he was recognized by NAACP with the Champions of Justice award for outstanding service and commitment in advancing civil rights. In 2013, he was a visiting lecturer for a course in legal writing at the University of Zambia Law School. In 2013, Mr. Ashton taught a nationwide continuing legal education program to the Firm's attorneys and in-house counsel for Firm clients on the topic of diversity on legal teams.
Mr. Ashton is admitted to practice in the State of Maryland, Commonwealth of Virginia, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, the Second Circuit, the Fourth Circuit, and the Ninth Circuit.
