HEALTHCARE ETHICS IN ACTION is a one-day conference that will provide basic ethics
education and skills for healthcare ethics committee members. Morning plenary sessions will provide
content on ethical theories, models of ethics consultation, and an overview of law and its relationship to
healthcare ethics. Video case presentations will be shown to demonstrate ethical concepts presented in morning sessions. Afternoon concurrent sessions will focus on special topics in healthcare ethics, and allow attendees to practice case consultation skills. The American Society for Bioethics and Humanities’ Core Competencies of Ethics Consultation will provide a model for program content.

The Maryland Healthcare Ethics Committee Network (MHECN) is a membership organization established by the Law and Health Care Program at the University of Maryland School of Law. Its purpose is to facilitate and enhance ethical reflection in all aspects of decision making in health care settings by supporting and providing informational and educational resources to ethics committees serving health care institutions in the state of Maryland.
