Maryland Law Alumni are active volunteers in a host of community service, pro bono and School of Law related projects. Each year, hundreds of alumni volunteer countless hours helping students at the law school, and our alumni are a great source of pride for our students.
Alumni volunteers help the school in more ways than we can count. Some of those ways include:
There are many ways to be involved in the life of the law school, ranging from academic to philanthropic. Every effort to stay connected and build community makes a difference. By no means exhausting the list of possible programs, below are just a few descriptions of alumni volunteer positions that are currently available
This program is designed to put first-year law students in contact with alumni who can help shape the professional foundation of a future fellow member of the bar. An attorney-mentor will be someone to whom the student can turn for general guidance and advice during the period of adjustment to law school. While an attorney-mentor is not expected to be a potential employer, he/she may offer tips on how to survive those first-year papers, exams and moot court arguments.
Mentors and students are matched, as closely as practical, on the basis of criteria requested by the students, such as practice area, ethnicity, or geographic area. Once matches are made, students are expected to make the first contact. The type and frequency of contact and the duration of the mentor-student relationship is determined by mutual consent.

The Alumni Association sponsors numerous events, including but not limited to the Annual Honors Banquet, regional alumni receptions and reunions. These events are an excellent opportunity for alumni who do not often get back to the law school to stay in touch with classmates and colleagues. We are always looking for new and exciting events that interest our alumni, so please feel free to suggest a new event idea.
As the curriculum expands to address the increasing specialization of legal education, experts in these fields are welcome additions to the adjunct faculty.
