Advanced Writing Requirement and Scholarly Writing

Advanced Writing Requirement

In order to graduate, all students must satisfy the law school's Advanced Writing Requirement by writing a seminar paper or its equivalent. There are a number of ways that the Legal Writing Center can help you to complete this requirement:

1. The Legal Writing Center conducts workshops and schedules individual appointments that introduce students to the genre of scholarly writing and can help with every stage of the writing process: selecting a topic and narrowing a thesis, deciding on research strategies, organizing notes, outlining, getting started on the first draft, rewriting and revising.

2. The Legal Writing Center has numerous resources that can help you understand the Advanced Writing Requirement and how to fulfill it. In addition to the resources listed below, the Legal Writing Center has additional handouts, examples of successful seminar and cert papers, and an excellent book that we recommend highly: Elizabeth Fajans and Mary R. Falk, Scholarly Writing for Law Students.
