This course is designed for students who, regardless whether or not they plan to specialize in intellectual property law, desire an overview of the intellectual property considerations pertinent to businesses, particularly those that provide technology goods and services. In contrast to the Intellectual Property Survey course, this course is primarily concerned with commercial freedom to operate, i.e., the liability risks associated with business activity governed by intellectual property rights. This course will only address tangentially the procurement of intellectual property rights by federal and state application and registration. Those seeking a more comprehensive consideration of intellectual property law per se are encouraged to take Intellectual Property Survey as an alternative or in conjunction with this course.
