Written and Oral Advocacy (2)

Written and Oral Advocacy (formerly titled LAWR II) continues the students’ instruction in analysis, writing, and research by introducing students to persuasive writing and oral advocacy at the trial and appellate levels. Working on a well developed case file, students learn to work with facts, to develop a theory of the case, and to use their research and writing skills to develop and advance that theory. Over the course of the semester, students write several different documents to a court, such as a motion for summary judgment or trial brief, culminating in a draft and rewrite of an appellate brief and an oral argument. Classroom instruction will cover aspects of trial and appellate practice and persuasive writing.
